Miu Miu SS27 Turns Acting Royalty Into Sporty Librarians

Miu Miu brought a playful mix of academia, athleticism, and Hollywood star power to Paris Fashion Week with its Spring/Summer 2027 runway show. Returning to the Palais d’Iéna, the Italian fashion house transformed the venue with a deep purple floor marked by crisp white lines that immediately resembled a tennis court. It was the perfect setting for a collection that imagined what might happen if a group of classic librarians suddenly found themselves heading to sports day.

The opening look established the concept instantly. A conservative plaid blazer and tartan skirt were paired with vibrant yellow trainers, creating a contrast between traditional tailoring and athletic practicality. The combination also reflected a familiar city wardrobe habit, where polished office clothing is often paired with comfortable shoes for navigating busy commutes.

That tension between prim and sporty continued throughout the collection. Miu Miu presented checked and tartan skirts alongside fitted lycra crop tops, athletic shorts, and chunky trainers. The styling created an amusing contrast between scholarly dressing and sportswear, with the clothes suggesting characters who could spend the morning surrounded by books and the afternoon competing on the court.

Oversized glasses and slightly nerdy blazers strengthened the academic reference, giving several looks the feel of an eccentric university student wardrobe. At the same time, tiny sports shorts and energetic sneakers kept the collection firmly connected to movement. The result was unmistakably Miu Miu, where conventional ideas of femininity are often twisted into something more youthful, unexpected, and slightly mischievous.

The clothing was only part of the spectacle. Miu Miu also assembled an unusually star-studded runway cast, bringing together actors and personalities from some of the year’s most anticipated films and television projects.

One of the biggest surprises was Jamie Bell, who made his Miu Miu runway debut. Bell famously played the young ballet dancer in Billy Elliot, making his appearance particularly fitting for a collection so focused on movement and athletic energy.

Academy Award winner Olivia Colman was another unexpected addition. The 52-year-old actor walked in a V-neck sweater and black leather skirt suit, with her wispy hair styled into a relaxed, slightly messy ponytail. Her presence added a distinctly British sense of character to the runway.

Colman was joined by several other recognizable faces from contemporary film and television. Noah Jupe, known for Hamnet, appeared alongside Iggy Rigney, who plays Bret Easton Ellis in The Shards. Katherine Waterston also walked, ahead of her upcoming role opposite Andrew Garfield in The Uprising.

Emma Corrin, who is set to portray Lizzie Bennet in Dolly Alderton’s upcoming adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, was another notable presence. Gigi Hadid also joined the cast, bringing her modeling experience to a collection that increasingly felt like a celebration of actors and cultural personalities as much as fashion.

The casting reflected Miuccia Prada’s ability to make a runway feel like a cultural event. After featuring Gillian Anderson in the previous season, Miu Miu once again looked toward recognizable British talent while mixing established stars with younger performers.

With its combination of tartan, sporty silhouettes, oversized eyewear, and an unexpected cast of acting royalty, Miu Miu SS27 proved that intellectual dressing does not have to be serious. This season, the bookworms were ready to run.
