Sarah Jessica Parker’s Ballet-Inspired Look Was Covered in Ribbons

Sarah Jessica Parker has never been one to approach a fashion theme halfway, and her latest appearance in New York was proof once again. At the New York City Ballet’s annual Fall Fashion Gala at Lincoln Center, the actress embraced a romantic ballet-inspired aesthetic, taking the idea of ribbons far beyond her dress and weaving it through her entire look.

Parker arrived wearing a custom Simone Rocha creation that felt perfectly suited to the evening. The sheer, ankle-length dress featured delicate embroidered flowers and rows of pale pink ribbons threaded through silver eyelets. Long ribbons extended from the shoulders and sides of the dress, trailing dramatically beyond the hem as she moved.

The romantic details did not stop there. Parker paired the whimsical dress with an intricately decorated white handbag, Mikimoto jewelry, and sparkling pointed-toe Roger Vivier shoes. Every element added another layer to the soft, theatrical mood, creating a look that felt both elegant and distinctly Parker.

Then came the hair.

Her signature styling was transformed into an exaggerated, extra-long ponytail that reached almost to her knees. Instead of leaving it simple, sections of the ponytail were tied repeatedly with matching pink ribbon, extending the theme from her clothing into her beauty look.

It was an unusually literal interpretation of a fashion motif, but that is precisely what made it work. Parker has always had a talent for committing completely to an idea, whether she is dressing for the red carpet or channeling her most famous character, Carrie Bradshaw.

In fact, the Simone Rocha connection carried a particularly satisfying Sex and the City universe reference. During the final season of And Just Like That…, Parker wore a sheer Simone Rocha gown from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection while appearing at Carrie’s Gramercy Park townhouse. The designer’s romantic, sculptural aesthetic has therefore already become part of Parker’s on-screen fashion history.

This latest appearance took that connection somewhere new. Rather than simply revisiting the style language of Carrie Bradshaw, Parker brought Simone Rocha’s work into the very setting that inspired the evening’s ballet theme.

Rocha’s involvement with the gala extended beyond Parker’s wardrobe. The designer also created costumes for dancers performing an original pas de deux choreographed by New York City Ballet resident choreographer Justin Peck. That made Parker’s choice of dress feel especially appropriate, connecting her fashion directly to the world of dance.

And Parker was clearly enthusiastic about the abundance of ribbon. At the gala, she explained that she loves ribbon and that the team had specifically asked for extra ribbon. The result was impossible to miss.

From the delicate bows on the dress to the ribbons winding through her exceptionally long ponytail, the entire appearance felt like a celebration of theatrical femininity. It was playful without losing sophistication and dramatic without becoming overwhelming.

For Parker, the look was another reminder that fashion can be more memorable when it embraces a little fantasy. At an evening dedicated to ballet, she did not simply dress for the theme. She stepped fully into it, proving once again that no one commits to a fashion idea quite like Sarah Jessica Parker.
